Test your digital download before someone buys it

Check the delivered file, instructions and access path from a buyer’s point of view before promoting a new download.

Your file looks right while you are making it. That is only one part of the purchase. A buyer also needs to receive it, open it and understand what to do first.

Before announcing a digital product, walk through those steps using the version you plan to deliver.

Start with the exported file

Open the export rather than relying on the design editor. Check every page for missing text, incorrect order, cropped details and links that do not work. Compare the contents with the sales page and previews.

If the listing says five pages, decide whether that count includes the cover and instructions, then make the description clear. If it says fillable or editable, test those capabilities in the tools you claim to support.

Give someone a first action

A short instruction can prevent a long support thread. Tell the buyer what to open, which page to begin with and whether they need to print, duplicate a template or use particular software.

Keep requirements beside the product description as well as inside the download. A buyer should not discover a required paid account after purchasing.

Check access without your owner permissions

A link that opens for you may depend on your account access. Use the platform’s supported test or preview flow and ask a tester to check a sample delivery where appropriate. Do not send them passwords or grant more access than the test needs.

If you offer a software template, check that the buyer receives their own usable copy rather than access to your working master.

Test the use you promise

For a printable file, print a representative page at the stated size. Look at the text, writing space and margins. For a digital worksheet, test entering and saving information. If you claim mobile support, check the actual steps on a phone.

You do not need to promise every use case. You need to verify the ones you advertise.

Record the checked version

Keep a release note with the filename, date and checks completed. When the product changes, update the file, instructions and previews together.

Your next step

Ask one person unfamiliar with the product to open a test copy and complete its first task. Notice where they hesitate. Fix that before adding another bonus page.
